The Women’s Darkroom + Gallery is dedicated to bringing forth to a larger public, artists and ideas that have not had ample exposure in New York. The gallery will not be defined by a medium, an era, a sex, a race, a class; while there will be a concentration on women’s art, the gallery will not solely show women. The Women’s Darkroom + Gallery sees ideas as non-linear, time as a fluid entity, art as a conduit for speaking across generations.
Lisa Martin received her BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design and an MFA from Hunter College, City University of New York. She has had fellowships at MacDowell colony and Yaddo and her photographs are in the collection of ICP. She worked in publishing as the Director of Photography at InStyle magazine among other titles for the past 20 years.
The Women’s Darkroom will have a black and white (possibly color) private darkroom for women to come and make their work. Lisa Martin is currently working on funding for the darkroom. If you would like to donate funds, please email Lisa@thewomensdarkroom.com.
